Now on to the proper post. Chinese New Year... and i'm overseas. ): I miss all the new year goodies and the ang pows! anyway, CNY here is pretty dead, as in.. even the chinese don't really celebrate chinese new year here. Like we went to Chinatown yesterday for the reunion dinner organised by the Singapore Student Society in Manchester (SSSM), Chinatown was DEAD! So yeah, the chinese who were brought up here are kind of "Angmoh-tized". The reason why i say this is because i have a flatmate whose parents are HKers but he was brought up in Leeds. He didn't even know it was Chinese New Year!
Okay, my CNY was actually made up of lots of food. Thank God for allowing us to get to know some of the SSSM ppl, so we could join them for their CNY dinner. Initially we thought that there were like 20-30 singaporeans here in manchester only, haha.. we were so wrong. There were easily close to 300 students here and 200 odd came for the dinner last night! The dinner cost 13 pounds, but boy was it worth it. I ate so much, I couldn't even move. The 10-course dinner was pretty good, not like Singapore hotel or restaurant standard, it had pretty good dishes. Veggies with scallops, Fish, Butter Prawns, Char Siew & Duck & and Sao Rou etc. And they served enough for 10 people in a table. so yeah. it was a really good meal and it was really good company. Luckily we had 5 SMU students and 5 NUS students to make one full table (actually only 4 NUS ppl, and one girl from HK). At the dinner, there were also games like BINGO and some Karaoke competition.
So after dinner everyone came over to our hall to stay up the night so that our parents can have long lives! ahhaha. I slept at 4 plus i think. So yeah, thats about it for CNY here in Manchester. I shall leave you with some pics:
